Scene Navigation
You can navigate with the mouse, the keyboard, or both mouse and keyboard. The Cortona ParallelGraphics viewer is an integral part of the software, therefore the user will find on the lower and left hand side of the 3D window the actual controls of such viewer:
- The vertical toolbar contains buttons used to specify navigation type.
- The horizontal toolbar contains buttons with predefined actions to change your position.
There is also pop-up menu, which you access by pressing the right mouse button while the pointer is over toolbars or 3D window.
MAIN NAVIGATION TYPE (Free View)
- WALK navigation is used for exploring a virtual world on foot or in a vehicle that rests on or hovers above the ground. WALK navigation means terrain following and gravity in order to produce a walking or driving experience.
- FLY navigation is similar to WALK except that terrain following and gravity may be disabled or ignored.
- EXAMINE navigation is used for viewing individual objects and often includes (but does not require) the ability to spin around the object and move the viewer closer or further away.
You can switch the navigation mode by clicking buttons on the vertical toolbar (click STUDY to enter EXAMINE mode). Each navigation mode may have several options: PLAN, PAN, TURN, and ROLL. The combination of navigation mode and its option determines the possible camera motion and its orientation.
To move around a 3D world using the mouse:
1. Choose a navigation mode.
2. Position the pointer anywhere in the 3D window and press the left mouse button.
3. Move the mouse while holding down its left button. The direction in which you drag the mouse determines the camera motion.
4. Release the left mouse button to stop moving.
To accelerate the camera's movement or rotation, press SHIFT, CTRL or SHIFT+CTRL.
To switch the options of each navigation mode (PLAN, PAN, TURN, ROLL)move the mouse while holding down the ALT key, Space Key or ALT + Space Key.
Move the mouse forward or backward while holding down the Space key to turn upward, downward.
Use GOTO to move close to object in a world. Select GOTO in the toolbar and then click on an object in the world. You'll move directly to it.
PREDEFINED VIEWS
The Views menu allows one to switch some predifined views (Top, Front, Back, Left, Right, Bottom).
These viewing modes allows two type of navigation: PAN (left mouse button) and ZOOM (right mouse button).
